Baseball Haiku

I'm not sure what's going on over at Amazon -- maybe it's a glitch in the system -- but right now Baseball Haiku is on sale for only $5.15. (That's 74% off the regular price.) If you've ever thought about buying a copy, now is definitely the time.

Baseball Haiku is a 256-page hardcover book (the Kindle version is also $5.15) with great poems by Cor van den Heuvel, Ed Markowski, and George Swede, among many others. I'm not sure why Amazon has it marked down so much, but haiku fans should definitely snatch this one up.

Amazon offers free shipping on most orders over $25, so if you're looking to reach that $25 mark, here are some other books on sale:

- The Haiku Handbook, by William J. Higginson with Penny Harter - $10.08
- Essential Haiku, edited by Robert Hass - $12.48
- The Haiku Anthology, edited by Cor van den Heuvel - $11.53
- Japanese Death Poems, compiled by Yoel Hoffman - $11.53

P.S. My review of Modern Haiku is currently the featured article over at Helium.com. If you've never read Modern Haiku, it's a great magazine, filled to the brim with good poems.

  1. yeah, but it's about baseball, dude! :) I might read it for the haiku but I'm not much of a baseball fan. Football is my one and only game.

  3. Charles,
Keep in mind that while baseball
is at times the foreground, center,
& background of the haiku in the
anthology, many of the poems touch
    on serious social & personal
    topics.

Should also be noted that the poems
in the anthology are not nuggets
of nostalgia, nor do they glorify
    baseball personalities. In fact,
most of the "baseball" in the
book, is the baseball we played
    as kids & that's a million miles
    away from the abomination the
game has become at the major
league level. Fan or not, if one were to make a tapestry of "those
    things AMERICAN" baseball would
    have to be represented. It's
been with us all of our lives.

So, that being said, give it a chance, & i'll hoof it on up
to the concession stand, the next
    beer's on me!

  4. Hey Ed --

some of the best baseball haiku I've read has been about kids playing baseball, not grown-ups (like "pop up"). professional baseball seems more removed from the actual game.

I like that "infield grass" one!
