Preditors & Editors, haiku

The Preditors & Editors Readers' Poll is now officially open. If you want to nominate anyone for any of the categories (or vote for someone who is already nominated, or nominate yourself) now is the time to do it. All voting must be done by January 14th.

There is plenty of good haiku around the Internet these days. Mann Library is featuring Tom Clausen for the month of January, and Daily Haiku has poems from Joanne Morcom this week. Joshua Gage has a few zombie haiku up over at Tales of World War Z. And the new issue of Prune Juice (#3) just went live. (Prune Juice is open to submissions through May 1st.)

  2. Since I've totally abandoned planet haiku I thought I'd
    leave these pieces that
I found under the seat of
my truck when I wrecked it
    last week due to some
    black ice.

  4. greg,
    i'll send an email when
    i get home from work.

by the grace of god & the lucky
two dollar bill my mother gave
me twenty years ago i wasn't
    injured. 4,500 in damage to
    my 02 blazer.

    i was very lucky.

  6. I don't have any zombie haiku alas, though With Words showcases winning haiku from the With Words Online Haiku Competition.

This included judge's commentary on why these haiku won or were placed high.

    all my best,

  7. Alan - thanks for the link, those are some good haiku. I especially liked John Barlow's "scops owl" poem.

  8. Hi Greg,

It's pretty darned good, and is straight from a real experience, as both John and myself prefer to write direct experience haiku.

That haiku isn't yet in a collection or anthology, but you can check out John's superb Snapshot Press which has won awards on American shores with the Poetry Society of America as well as the Haiku Society of America.

  9. Thanks for the link, Alan. I've seen John's haiku in a bunch of different contest results... seems he always lands at least a few haiku in the top 3 and honorable mentions.
