Anyone who enjoys reading haiku is likely familiar with Cid Corman. And if you're not, you should be. Moira Richards reviews the master poet and translator's last chapbook before his death, For Crying Out Loud. If you want to buy a copy, it's only $8.
And since it's almost Halloween, I thought I'd share one of the best Halloween short stories I've ever read. It's by Gary Raisor, and it's called "Making Friends." Any horror fan will certainly like this story.
Hey, Greg:
ReplyDeleteJust a note. I didn't see a comments section, so if you could forward this on to Moira Richards, I'd be obliged:

Hi, Moira:
Just a note to be checked out - Cid Corman's "Now/Now" was published in early 2004 by "Modest Proposal Chapbooks," an imprint of Lilliput Review. The chapbook was read to Cid while he was in hospital previous to its publication. I'm not sure when "For Crying Out Loud" was published but this is just a bibliographic note for the ages. I'd always been under the impression that "Now/Now" was the last book issued before he passed.
Not that it much matters now. As Cid wrote "Of course you're baffled. / Who wouldn't be? Caught in this - / whatchu call it? - world?"
Sincere regards,
Don Wentworth, Lilliput Review

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check out that story for sure.
ReplyDeleteDon - I passed your message along. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCharles - I think "Making Friends" is a story you'd enjoy. It was also made into a short film, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, not sure if it stands up to the story itself.
Thanks, Greg. Cheers! Don
ReplyDeleteFor Crying Out Loud was published in 2002, and I'm sure Cid had other chapbooks come out after that, including Now/Now, as Don mentioned. We were in the process of publishing Cid's The Exultations, but it didn't come out until 2005.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Ce
Thanks for the info, Ce! Cid had so many chapbooks, I don't know how anyone keeps track of all of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Greg, Don - thanks for this :-)
ReplyDeleteI sourced my information from the Poetry Foundation website here:
http://www.poetryfoundation.org/bio/cid-corman
where there's an impressive albeit incomplete listing of Cid's work. They may well be interested to be updated.
all best, moi
Thanks for the link, Moira. Even incomplete, that is an impressive bibliography.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification, all - Ce, Moira, and Greg ... Cheers, Don
